The Ridanna/Ridnaun – Monteneve/Schneeberg mountain mining museum
Located in a mountain massif between the Ridanna/Ridnaun and the Passiria/Passeier valleys, the Ridanna/Ridnaun mine is one of the longest and highest mines in the entire Alpine region.
For five centuries over 1,000 miners at a time toiled here in the 130-150 km of galleries and shafts deep in the bowels of the mountain extracting lead, silver and zinc ore.
Today it is open to the public and many of the installations are still in working order. Consequently this is no normal museum to visit but an opportunity to experience everyday working life as it once was.
