Pharmacy Museum Bressanone/Brixen
The history-charged Peer pharmacy of Bressanone, in 2002 inaugurated a small but mighty museum, short “PMB”, providing an interesting insight into 400 years of healing arts, herbalism and various delusions. Not only remedies are exhibited, but also packages and much more. On a surface of 150 sq m, there are also some curiosities, such as the head of an armadillo, a piece of an Egypt mummy as well as gilded pills. By the way, sugared isopods were administered against fever a long time ago…
Present-day products make the exhibition complete. There is also a library with works of different centuries, moreover you get an insight into a pharmacy laboratory and you get to know the appliances of a pharmacist. Up to the 19th century, almost all medication was produced in the own laboratory.
Again and again, there are temporary exhibitions, e.g. on the hygiene, illustrating hygiene ideas of bygone times. Today the pharmacy museum is administered by the volunteer association “recipe!”.
